Satara: The Sahyadri Tiger Reserve has inducted a Belgian Shepherd dog squad, trained by the National Training Centre for Dogs (NTCD) of the Indo-Tibetan Border Security Force, to enhance wildlife protection and law enforcement efforts. The dog squad, comprising two dogs named “Belgi” and their handlers, Ku. Sarika Jadhav and Shri. Anil Kumbhar, has completed a 28-week training program at Panchkula, Haryana.
Trained to Detect Wildlife Contraband
The Belgian Shepherd breed dogs are trained to detect a wide variety of items, including drugs, explosives, and wildlife contraband, making them valuable assets in security operations. Their keen sense of smell and agility enable them to track and detect illegal items, poachers, and other threats to wildlife.
