Mumbai: The families of hawkers, who are facing a huge financial crisis, can vote unitedly to teach a lesson to the parties adopting an anti-social attitude. On one hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is helping hawkers in every way, but on the other hand, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation is not allowing them to do business. This has led to a dire situation, with many hawkers struggling to make ends meet.
The United Hawker’s Federation, Mumbai, has informed various leaders about the condition of hawkers. A recent march at Azad Maidan, attended by thousands of hawkers with their families, showcased their unity. The hawkers are demanding justice and have launched a movement to protest against the ban on hawking, which has led to a dire situation for many families.
Interestingly, hawkers have a significant impact on Mumbai’s elections. About 80% of Mumbai’s voters are connected to hawkers, and no party can win without their support. With approximately 3 lakh hawkers and 3 lakh hawker assistants in Mumbai, their families’ votes can make a significant difference. If the hawkers of Mumbai decide to vote against a particular party, they can influence the outcome of the elections.
The Broader Impact of Hawkers on Indian Elections Not only in Mumbai but also in Maharashtra, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, hawkers play a crucial role in shaping election results. Their votes can make a significant difference in the outcome of elections, and politicians would do well to take note of their concerns and demands.
