Mumbai: The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) and the All India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA) jointly organised a spectacular event to commemorate 30 years of mobile telephony in India, with CAIT Vice President Suresh Bhai Thakkar, also the President of Thane Jila Wholesale Vyapari Welfare Mahasangh, playing a key role. The event was inaugurated by Union Minister for Telecommunications, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, who highlighted the country’s digital revolution under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership.
A Nostalgic Journey Through Time
The event featured a unique exhibition showcasing over 300 iconic mobile handsets from the past three decades, taking attendees on a captivating journey through the evolution of personal connectivity. From India’s earliest bulky devices to sleek modern smartphones powered by AI and 5G, the exhibition offered a glimpse into the transformative impact of mobile telephony on commerce, communication, and culture.
Celebrating a Milestone and Looking to the Future
The occasion marked the 30th anniversary of India’s first-ever mobile call, made on July 31, 1995. Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia and other dignitaries praised the country’s progress in the telecom sector, with Shri Praveen Khandelwal noting that India’s mobile journey has become a global case study, powering a trillion-dollar digital economy. The event concluded with a collective call for building an inclusive, secure, and innovation-driven mobile future for India, rooted in self-reliance and digital equity.
