Mumbai: The State Election Commission (SEC) held a crucial meeting with district collectors yesterday to discuss preparations for the upcoming local body elections in Maharashtra. The meeting, which excluded Mumbai city and suburban districts, aimed to review the pre-election scenario in all other districts.
The SEC is gearing up to conduct elections for 32 Zilla Parishads, 336 Panchayat Samitis, 248 Municipal Councils, 42 Nagar Panchayats, and 29 Municipal Corporations in the state. The meeting focused on key aspects such as voter numbers, polling stations, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), manpower requirements, and timely issue resolution.
District collectors were instructed to prepare detailed reports on these aspects and submit them to the SEC in PDF format via email by July 9, 2025. They were also asked to attend a video conference meeting with the SEC, where the progress of preparations will be reviewed.
The SEC’s efforts aim to ensure a smooth and efficient election process, and the meeting marks a significant step towards achieving this goal. With the local body elections expected to be held in 2025, the SEC is working closely with district authorities to ensure that all necessary preparations are in place.
