Mumbai: MLA Sanjay Upadhyay highlighted rampant corruption in the education department, terming it “extremely unfortunate” and “a matter of great shame.” Sandeep Sangave, former Deputy Director of Education, was accused of large-scale corruption, including granting recognition to schools without proper infrastructure and embezzling government funds.
Serious Irregularities Alleged
Upadhyay alleged Sangave was involved in serious irregularities, including granting retroactive recognition to schools and imposing fines on the government treasury. Despite a court-imposed fine of Rs 3.30 lakh, no action was taken against him. Over 20 serious cases were cited against Sangave, prompting demands for a thorough investigation.
MLA Support
The MLAs, including Randhir Savarkar, Mihir Kotecha, Praveen Datke, and others, supported Upadhyay’s demand for action against Sangave. The collective pressure from the opposition forced the government to take action.
Government Action
Facing mounting pressure, Education Minister Dada Bhuse announced Sangave’s immediate suspension and an SIT investigation. This development is seen as a significant step towards addressing corruption in the education department and ensuring accountability.
