Mumbai: The Bombay High Court delivered its verdict in the 2006 Mumbai blasts case on July 21, acquitting all 11 accused in the case. A division bench of Justice Anil Kilor and Justice S. Chandak passed the order.
At least 209 people were killed in the blasts on Mumbai’s suburban trains. More than 800 people were injured. Five explosions took place in Mumbai’s local trains within a span of 11 minutes. The blasts occurred between Churchgate and Borivali stations. Cooker bombs were used in the blasts.
The 11 accused were acquitted as the police and investigating agencies could not present proper evidence in the court. The incident was a series of coordinated terrorist attacks that shook Mumbai, causing significant loss of life and injury. The acquittal of the accused has been a notable development in the case, given the severity of the attacks and the impact on the victims and their families. The court’s decision was based on the lack of sufficient evidence presented by the prosecution.
