Mumbai: The city experienced heavy rainfall on Monday, July 21, with intense downpours in South Mumbai and Western suburbs. Popular areas like Marine Drive and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus were soaked due to overnight rains. Visuals from Andheri and Kurla showed waterlogging in several parts, including at the railway station. The Andheri subway was closed for traffic following the incessant rainfall.

Heavy Rains Alert and Forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the rain was likely to persist for at least a few hours, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h. An initial yellow alert was upgraded to an orange alert for the next few hours. Temperatures are expected to hover between 25°C and 31°C with partly cloudy skies.

Disruptions Due to Heavy Rains

Commuters faced major disruptions using public transportation in the morning. Local trains on the harbour line were running 20-25 minutes late. Traffic disruptions were reported in western and central suburbs due to waterlogging in several areas. Commuters were advised to carry umbrellas and exercise caution due to potential hazards from water accumulation and slippery roads.
