Mumbai: The United Street Vendors’ Association is organizing an indefinite shutdown of street vendor businesses and a protest march to highlight the unfair treatment of Mumbai’s street vendors. Starting from July 12, 2025, the protest aims to draw attention to the plight of vendors who have been serving Mumbaikars for decades.
The vendors have been facing harassment, eviction, and confiscation of goods despite their contributions to the city’s economy. The association is demanding a proper survey and allotment of designated spaces for vendors, reasonable fees, and an end to unjust actions by the Municipal Corporation and Police.
The protest schedule includes an indefinite shutdown of street vendor businesses from July 12, 2025, and a silent protest march on July 15, 2025, from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park to Mantralaya. Thousands of vendors will participate in the peaceful and disciplined march, demanding justice and dignity in their profession.
The United Street Vendors’ Association is seeking immediate action from the Government of Maharashtra to ensure justice for Mumbai’s street vendors. The protest’s slogan, “Stop the injustice – Respect our right to earn with dignity!” reflects the vendors’ determination to fight for their rights.
