Nagpur: Nagpur Police have intensified their efforts to curb the spread of hate and misinformation on social media, following the violent clashes that erupted in the city on Monday. The cyber cell has identified and taken action against several social media accounts that posted provocative content before and after the violence.
10 FIRs Registered, Including Cases Against Objectionable Videos
A total of 10 FIRs have been registered, with the latest 4 cases filed for posting objectionable videos on social media, inciting, and provoking violence. This swift action is part of the police’s efforts to maintain law and order in the city.
Bangladesh Connection Emerges, Facebook Account Reported
The cyber cell has also identified a Facebook account operated from Bangladesh, which threatened to incite large-scale riots in Nagpur. The account has been reported to Facebook, and a request has been made to block it. This development highlights the need for increased vigilance against misinformation and hate speech on social media.
Police Identify 97 Posts Spreading False Information
Furthermore, the cyber cell has identified 97 posts spreading false information, including claims that two people injured in the riots had died in the hospital. The police have appealed to the public not to believe any unverified information on social media and avoid spreading rumors.
18 Special Investigation Teams Formed to Probe Riots
To investigate the riots, the Nagpur city police have formed 18 special investigation teams (SITs). So far, the police have identified 200 people and are engaged in identifying another 1,000 suspects. These suspects were captured in CCTV footage during the riots.
Situation Returns to Normal, Police Work to Bring Perpetrators to Justice
With the increased presence of security personnel and the crackdown on social media miscreants, the situation is slowly returning to normal. The police are working tirelessly to ensure that those responsible for the violence are brought to justice.
