Mumbai: Following the Maharashtra government’s declaration of public Ganeshotsav as a state festival, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation has taken a significant step to facilitate the festival preparations. As per the request of RTI activist Anil Galgali, the corporation has initiated an online permit process for public Ganesh mandals. This move is expected to streamline the process of obtaining necessary permits for the festival.
BMC has started an online application process for public Ganesh mandals to obtain necessary permits for mandap setup, idol installation, and decorations. Anil Galgali had requested the corporation’s deputy commissioner, Prashant Sapkale, on July 4, 2025, to implement a computerized application process under a “one-window scheme” for public Ganesh mandals. The online system will provide convenience, transparency, and timeliness in obtaining necessary permits from various departments for the mandals. By digitizing the permit process, the corporation aims to make it easier for mandals to comply with regulations while preparing for the festival.
This joint initiative by the government and the municipal corporation is expected to make this year’s public Ganeshotsav more organized, systematic, and safe. The online permit process aims to reduce delays in obtaining permits, thereby helping mandals in their preparations. With thousands of mandals participating in Ganeshotsav in Mumbai and its suburbs, this streamlined process is anticipated to contribute to a smoother festival experience for both organizers and participants. The initiative reflects efforts to leverage technology for better governance and facilitation of cultural festivals.
