New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi addressed a press conference at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi, alleging “vote chori” or vote theft in the 2024 general elections. He claimed that the Election Commission of India (ECI) colluded with the BJP to rig elections, citing examples from Karnataka’s Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha constituency.
The key allegations made by Rahul Gandhi include several discrepancies in the electoral rolls. There were 11,965 duplicate voters found in the electoral rolls, which raises concerns about the integrity of the electoral process. Additionally, 40,009 voters had fake or invalid addresses, which could lead to votes being cast by ineligible or non-existent voters. Furthermore, 10,452 voters were registered at a single address, suggesting potential manipulation of voter registration. There were also 4,132 voters with invalid or micro-sized photos, making it difficult to verify the identity of voters. Moreover, 33,692 cases of misuse of new voter registration forms were reported, indicating possible exploitation of the voter registration process.
Rahul Gandhi demanded that the ECI provide machine-readable voter lists and preserve polling station CCTV footage to ensure transparency and accountability in the electoral process. He also urged the judiciary to intervene, stating that democracy is at stake. The Congress party has alleged that over 1 lakh votes were stolen in the Mahadevapura assembly segment of Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha constituency, which could have impacted the outcome of the elections.
The allegations made by Rahul Gandhi raise serious concerns about the integrity of the electoral process and the role of the ECI in ensuring free and fair elections. If proven true, these allegations could have significant implications for the legitimacy of the 2024 general elections and the government formed as a result [2].
