Kolhapur: The Shahupuri police have dismantled an inter-district gang involved in selling cars worth lakhs by creating fake Registration Certificate (RC) books. The police seized two Creta and one Fortuner car, mobile phones, and materials used to prepare fake RC books worth approximately Rs 61.54 lakh.
The crime took place between April and May 2024, with the accused taking cars from complainants, preparing fake documents, and selling them to each other. The gang operated in multiple districts, including Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, Mumbai, Thane, and Beed.
Six individuals were arrested: Nilesh Ramchandra Surve, Hasan Magdum Jahangirdar (Ratnagiri ) Mohammad Amjad Mohammad Qureshi, Saqib Salim Sheikh, Shahjama Khan, Badruzma Khan, and Sheikh Shahnawaz Sheikh Asef. The police seized fake RC books, PUC cards, printers, CPUs, mobile phones, and other materials used for creating fake documents.
The gang used agents and photo studios to prepare fake RC books for selling cars. The police are investigating further to uncover any additional accomplices or similar cases.
