Thane: The Crime Branch, Unit-02, Bhiwandi, has achieved a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, seizing Mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 31.84 crore and arresting two notorious drug peddlers, Tanveer Ahmad Qamar Ahmad Ansari and Mahesh Hindurao Desai. Acting on a tip-off, the team laid a trap on the Eastern Expressway and apprehended the accused, foiling their attempt to peddle the illicit substance. This major haul is a testament to the relentless efforts of the Thane Crime Branch in combating drug trafficking and organized crime.

The accused were found in possession of 17 kg 924 gm of Mephedrone (MD), with a street value of Rs 31,84,80,000. Two luxury cars, a Swift Dzire worth Rs 35 lakh and a BMW worth Rs 30 lakh, were also seized along with three mobile phones and cash worth Rs 8,140. The total value of the seized assets amounts to Rs 32,20,10,140. The police team has been working tirelessly to track down the source of the drugs and identify other individuals involved in the racket.

The accused have been booked under the NDPS Act, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the drugs. The Crime Branch is working to unravel the network of the drug peddlers and identify other individuals involved in the racket. The police are also probing the accused’s connections with other drug traffickers and the extent of their involvement in the illicit trade. The investigation aims to dismantle the entire network of drug peddlers and bring all those involved to justice.

The accused, Tanveer Ahmad Qamar Ahmad Ansari, has previous cases registered against him, including cases related to drug trafficking. Mahesh Hindurao Desai also has a history of involvement in similar cases, with multiple FIRs filed against him. The police have a detailed record of the accused’s past activities and are using this information to inform their investigation. The accused’s previous cases suggest a pattern of behavior that indicates their involvement in organized crime.
