Mumbai: Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has intensified its probe against businessman and Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty’s husband, Raj Kundra, in connection with a ₹60 crore financial fraud. On Monday, Kundra faced nearly five hours of tough interrogation, during which investigators uncovered several critical leads.
⭕ Funds Diverted Into 5 Companies
Investigators believe the money was funneled into Satyug Gold, Vihaan Industries, Essential Bulk Commodities Pvt. Ltd., Best Deal, and Statement Media. Officials suspect the funds were not used for genuine investments but were instead spent on personal benefits and suspicious expenditures.
⭕ Suspicious Transactions in Bank Records
Scrutiny of Kundra’s bank statements revealed ₹25 crore in questionable spending, including lavish office rent in Matunga, ₹3.15 crore on a warehouse, and ₹20 crore on broadcasting expenses. Authorities fear these companies may have been used as a front for money laundering.
⭕ Spotlight on Shilpa Shetty
The development has sparked speculation in Bollywood circles. Sources indicate that Shilpa Shetty may also be questioned, though no official summons have been issued so far. Officials are examining whether she had any role in the questionable transactions.
⭕ Past Controversies Haunt Kundra
2021 Pornography Case: Kundra was arrested by Mumbai Police for allegedly producing and distributing obscene content via mobile apps. He was later released on bail but continues to face trial.
IPL Betting Scandal: In 2013, Kundra was banned for life from Indian Premier League activities due to alleged involvement in betting linked to Rajasthan Royals.
Bitcoin Scam Allegations: His name also surfaced in a cryptocurrency fraud probe, though he denied direct involvement.
These past cases have resurfaced, adding weight to the ongoing scrutiny in the current ₹60 crore scam investigation.
⭕ Current Updates
EOW officials are now analyzing audit reports, money trails, and the role of other company directors. Sources suggest that more high-profile names could emerge as the investigation expands in the coming weeks.
