Bishkek: The 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek has placed India’s diplomatic priorities firmly in focus, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling for stronger cooperation against terrorism, greater regional connectivity and peaceful resolution of international conflicts.
🟡 MODI DELIVERS STRONG MESSAGE ON TERRORISM
Addressing the SCO gathering, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it clear that terrorism cannot be treated selectively. India called for a united and decisive approach against terrorism and stressed that the entire ecosystem supporting terrorist activities must be dismantled.
The message assumes added significance as the Indian Prime Minister raised the issue in the presence of leaders from China and Pakistan, making terrorism one of the key security concerns before the regional grouping.
🟡 DIALOGUE, NOT WAR, INDIA’S MESSAGE
Amid continuing international conflicts, India reiterated that lasting solutions cannot be achieved through military confrontation alone. Prime Minister Modi stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts and restoring regional stability.
India’s position reflects its continuing call for peaceful negotiations while maintaining a firm stand against terrorism and threats to national security.
🟡 MODI, XI AND PUTIN IN THE SAME FRAME
The presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin attracted considerable international attention.
Modi’s interactions with both leaders highlighted India’s strategic diplomatic balancing. While India continues to maintain strong relations with Russia, it is also engaging directly with China on regional and global issues.
The meetings once again demonstrated India’s preference for an independent foreign policy rather than becoming part of any single international power bloc.
🟡 SECURITY AND CONNECTIVITY TAKE CENTRE STAGE
India also pushed for greater cooperation in security, connectivity and economic development among SCO member states. New connectivity initiatives, India maintained, should promote trade and development while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.
Afghanistan’s stability and the wider security situation in Eurasia also remained important issues in the discussions.
🟡 SCO LOOKS TOWARDS THE NEXT 25 YEARS
The Bishkek summit comes as the SCO marks 25 years of its journey. India has called for the organisation to move beyond declarations and focus on concrete outcomes in security, connectivity, technology, innovation and opportunities for younger generations.
The summit also produced decisions and cooperation initiatives covering areas including climate, energy, nuclear safety, technology and efforts against drug-related threats.
🟡 INDIA’S DIPLOMATIC BALANCE IN FOCUS
The Bishkek summit once again underlined India’s growing role in a changing global order. New Delhi is simultaneously engaging with Russia, China and other major powers while maintaining its independent strategic position.
With terrorism, wars and geopolitical tensions continuing to challenge the region, India’s message from the SCO platform is clear — security must be strengthened, terrorism must be confronted without double standards, and conflicts must ultimately be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.
