Ludhiana, Punjab: Amid the devastating floods affecting large parts of Punjab, Col. CM Lakhanpal, Member of the PAC Mattewara Jungles, River Satluj, and Buddha Darya, has issued a heartfelt appeal for community participation with discipline, coordination, and compassion. He has called upon citizens, organizations, and authorities to rise above political and personal differences to help those in dire need.
Col. Lakhanpal emphasized that effective relief operations can only succeed with strict discipline, law-and-order cooperation, and coordinated action under the guidance of the District Administration’s Control Cells. Citizens have been urged to assist security forces, including the Armed Forces, NDRF, and police, who are fully engaged in rescue and relief missions across affected areas.
Highlighting the need for collective responsibility, he appealed to all voluntary groups, NGOs, social and religious organizations, Kissan unions, and political parties to work in harmony with district authorities rather than creating parallel structures that may cause duplication or confusion. Relief camps, evacuation efforts, health camps, and ration distribution centers must remain properly coordinated to ensure that every affected family receives timely assistance.
The appeal also calls on citizens to maintain discipline at ration queues, drinking water points, and medical centers while giving priority to women, children, the elderly, and the differently-abled. At the same time, people have been urged to refrain from rumor-mongering, spreading false information, or creating unnecessary panic, as such actions only worsen the suffering of flood victims.
Col. Lakhanpal further stressed that this is not the time for criticism or blame games but for unity and constructive cooperation. Problems or mismanagement should be reported through proper channels, and political differences should be set aside in the interest of humanitarian service. He reminded everyone that this flood crisis is not just an emergency but an undeclared disaster with long-term implications for health, livelihood, and the environment.
Appealing to the spirit of compassion, Col. Lakhanpal said that every act of kindness—from donating food and arranging shelters to volunteering at camps or guiding victims—creates hope and strengthens the collective fight against the disaster. Concluding his appeal, he stated, “Our goal is simple—to save lives, to reduce suffering, and to stand shoulder-to-shoulder as responsible citizens of this great nation. Together we can and we will overcome this challenge.”
