Mumbai: The Mumbai Police Department has undergone a major reshuffle, with 13 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) being transferred simultaneously. This move is seen as a significant step towards strengthening the city’s law and order, especially with the BMC elections just a few months away. As part of the reshuffle, new officers have been appointed to various zones and special branches of the city.
Krishnakant Upadhyay has been given charge of Zone 3, while Datta Kisan Nalawade has been appointed to Zone 10. Mahesh Dharamaji Chimte will now head Zone 12, and Samir Aslam Sheikh, who was recently transferred from Satara, will serve in Zone 6. Sameer Sheikh had taken significant action against gangsters under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) and had also successfully extended several notorious and organized crime offenders from the city. Rakesh Ola has been given charge of Zone 7.
Experienced officers have also been appointed to some special departments. Navnath Dhavale, who had recently led a major operation against drugs, will now head the Narcotics Cell. Vijaya Kant Mangesh Sagar has been posted to the Port Circle, and Prashant Ashok Singh Paradeshi has been given charge of the Traffic Department (South). Nimit Goel has been appointed to the Special Task Force (STF), and Dattatraya Kamble has been posted to Special Branch 1. Purushottam Narayan Karhad has been given charge of the Cyber and Crime Department, Sachin B Gunjal has been appointed to the Preventive Crime Branch, and Raj Tilak Roshan has been given charge of the Crime Investigation Department.
