Mumbai | Deputy Chief Minister and National President of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Ajit Pawar, has once again been elected President of the Maharashtra Olympic Association (MOA) — marking his fourth consecutive term at the helm. The unanimous victory reaffirms Pawar’s strong influence not only in politics but also in the sports administration of Maharashtra.
Out of 31 sports federations, more than 22 associations extended their support to Pawar’s panel, clearly reflecting the sports fraternity’s trust in his leadership. Alongside him, Adil Sumariwalla, Pradeep Gandhe, and Prashant Deshpande were elected unopposed as vice-presidents — consolidating the unity and confidence within the MOA.
Prior to the election, key discussions were held among senior leaders including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Praful Patel, and Sunil Tatkare, to maintain coordination within the ruling alliance. It was decided that Murli Dhar Mohol’s panel would receive representation in some positions, ensuring balance and consensus within the MahaYuti (grand alliance).
With Ajit Pawar continuing as MOA President, expectations are high for strengthening Maharashtra’s sports infrastructure, empowering rural athletes, and promoting transparency in administration. His long experience in governance and consensus politics has once again brought together leaders and sports organizations across party lines.
The newly elected executive body faces the vital task of nurturing talent, developing sports facilities in rural areas, and elevating Maharashtra’s presence on the national and international stage. Under Ajit Pawar’s capable leadership, stakeholders believe this journey will be both progressive and inspiring.
