Eid-ul-Fitr 2026 is being celebrated across India and several parts of the world with religious devotion and festive spirit, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. In India, the festival is being observed on March 21 following the sighting of the crescent moon on Friday evening.
In New Delhi, large crowds gathered around Jama Masjid for Eid prayers, with authorities expecting heavy turnout despite weather concerns and security arrangements. The historic mosque area witnessed a festive atmosphere, with people arriving early for Namaz and celebrations continuing in surrounding markets.
Across India, cities like Mumbai, Lucknow, and Hyderabad also saw thousands of devotees offering prayers at mosques and Eidgahs. Authorities issued advisories for crowd management and smooth conduct of prayers, as Eid remains one of the largest religious gatherings in the country.
Meanwhile, several Muslim-majority countries including Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Turkey, and Oman celebrated Eid a day earlier, on March 20, following local moon sightings. Large congregational prayers were held at major mosques, including Mecca, where thousands gathered in a display of unity and faith.
However, this year’s Eid celebrations are taking place under the shadow of rising tensions in the Middle East, particularly due to the ongoing Iran-related conflict. In response to security concerns, countries like the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar imposed restrictions, allowing Eid prayers only inside mosques instead of large open grounds.
In Iran, the situation remains tense as reports of explosions and military activity continue amid the broader regional conflict. Despite this, Iranian leadership extended Eid greetings, emphasizing unity and spiritual reflection during the festival. The developments highlight the contrast between celebration and conflict across the region.
The festival continues to emphasize charity, unity, and compassion. Muslims worldwide are giving Zakat al-Fitr to support the needy, ensuring that everyone can take part in the celebrations. Traditional foods, family gatherings, and community interactions remain central to Eid festivities.
Despite geopolitical tensions, Eid-ul-Fitr 2026 stands as a symbol of hope, peace, and togetherness, bringing millions together across borders and cultures.
