Mumbai: In a landmark move against drug smuggling, the Mumbai Crime Branch’s Anti-Narcotics Cell has filed a 953-page chargesheet in the Special MCOCA Court (Court No. 55, Sessions Court, Mumbai) against a drug trafficking gang operating under the leadership of Jamir Ahmed Abdul Khaliq Ansari alias ‘Boka’.
This action marks the first-ever case in Maharashtra to be prosecuted under the newly amended Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA), empowering authorities to take strict action against drug networks involved in large-scale smuggling and production.
The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly had approved the amendment on 10th July 2025, later published in the Government Gazette on 30th July 2025, allowing drug-related organized crime to fall under MCOCA’s purview.
According to the Anti-Narcotics Cell, investigation under Sections 8(a) and 22(a) of the NDPS Act, 1985, revealed that the accused had formed an organized criminal network to carry out drug smuggling operations across the city. Acting under the directives of their gang leader ‘Boka’, the members were actively involved in trafficking activities in recent months.
Two accused — Adnan Aamir Sheikh and Kayanat Jabbar Sheikh — have been arrested, while Jamir Ahmed Abdul Khaliq Ansari alias Boka remains absconding and has been declared a wanted accused.
Following the collection of strong evidence, the case was officially brought under Sections 3(1)(ii), 3(2), and 3(4) of the MCOCA Act. The detailed chargesheet was submitted on 1st November 2025 by the Anti-Narcotics Cell. Further investigation is being carried out under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Anti-Narcotics Cell, Crime Branch, Mumbai.
This decisive step signals Maharashtra Police’s firm stance against organized drug syndicates and strengthens the state’s fight against narcotics-driven crime.
