Youth Found Dead Near Government Office in Devgaon

Nashik district has reported its first suspected cold-related death of the season, sending a warning signal amid falling temperatures across northern Maharashtra. The incident occurred in Niphad taluka, where a 22-year-old youth was found dead near the Irrigation Department office in Devgaon, triggering concern among local residents and authorities.

The deceased has been identified as Sameer Daulat Sonawane, aged 22. His body was discovered early in the day, following which police were alerted and the area was cordoned off for preliminary inquiry.

Post-Mortem Points to Cold-Induced Cardiac Arrest

According to the initial post-mortem report, doctors have concluded that the youth suffered a severe heart attack triggered by extreme cold exposure. While further medical confirmation is awaited, officials said there were no visible signs of external injury or foul play.

Medical experts note that sudden drops in temperature can significantly increase the risk of cardiac events, particularly during night or early morning hours when the body is most vulnerable to hypothermia and stress.

Police Register Accidental Death Case

The Lasalgaon Police Station has registered an accidental death (ADR) case in connection with the incident. Police officials stated that all procedural formalities were completed and the body was handed over to the family after post-mortem examination.

Assistant Police Inspector Bhaskarrao Shinde confirmed the registration and urged citizens to remain alert as temperatures continue to dip across the region.

Authorities Issue Cold Weather Advisory

In light of the incident, police and local authorities have issued an advisory urging citizens—especially daily wage workers, homeless individuals, and those outdoors at night—to take adequate precautions against the cold.

Officials stressed the importance of wearing warm clothing, avoiding prolonged exposure to low temperatures, and seeking immediate medical attention in case of discomfort, chest pain, or breathing difficulty.
