Dhar: A tragic industrial accident shook Dhar district on Sunday evening when a poisonous gas leak occurred at a chemical unit in the Pithampur industrial area. According to reports, three workers—identified as Sunil (35), Deepak (30) and Jagdish—lost their lives after being exposed to the toxic fumes. The incident unfolded around 6 pm inside the premises of a factory, where one worker reportedly collapsed due to the leak and the others who rushed to assist also fell victim to the gas. They were rushed to a nearby health centre and later referred to Indore’s MY Hospital, where doctors declared all three dead.
The mishap triggered panic in the surrounding area, raising serious concerns about safety standards within the unit. Soon after the tragedy, administrative teams reached the site and brought the situation under control. Taking cognizance of the matter, District Magistrate Priyank Mishra ordered a magisterial inquiry, stressing that the investigation must be conducted in a fair and transparent manner. The probe has been assigned to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Pithampur.
The accident has once again highlighted the lack of adequate safety mechanisms in several industrial units across the region. Families of the deceased have been left devastated, while officials have assured that accountability will be fixed and corrective measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
