🟡 Deadly Landslide in Bilaspur
Bilaspur: In a heartbreaking incident, a private passenger bus was completely buried under debris following a massive landslide in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh. The tragedy occurred near Bhallu Bridge when the bus, travelling from Rohtak (Haryana) to Ghumarwin, was struck by a sudden landslide triggered by incessant rains and unstable hill slopes. The vehicle was carrying around 30 to 35 passengers at the time of the disaster.
🟡 High Casualties, Difficult Rescue
According to officials, at least 18 people lost their lives in the accident, while three passengers were rescued alive with severe injuries. Several others are feared trapped beneath the debris, as NDRF, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local authorities continue rescue operations amid difficult terrain and continuous rainfall. The rescue teams have been working round the clock with heavy machinery to remove boulders and mud.
🟡 Leaders Express Grief
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu rushed to monitor the situation and directed that the rescue be conducted on a war footing. He assured full support to the affected families, while President Droupadi Murmu also conveyed condolences to the victims’ families.

Officials say the area had been receiving continuous rainfall for several days, leading to landslides and road collapses across Bilaspur and nearby regions. Experts warn that unplanned construction and fragile hill conditions are making the region more prone to such disasters. Locals say this is one of the deadliest accidents in Bilaspur in recent years.

The administration has set up emergency helpline numbers and a control room to assist families of missing passengers. Heavy rainfall continues to hamper search efforts, but authorities remain hopeful of recovering more survivors. The Himachal government has also ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident.
