Rajgir: The Indian men’s hockey team scripted history by clinching their fourth Asia Cup crown after defeating defending champions South Korea 4-1 in the final. With this emphatic win, India not only ended its eight-year wait for the title but also booked a direct berth in the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup to be held in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The match began with fireworks as Sukhjeet Singh struck in the opening minute to give India an early lead. Dilpreet Singh then rose to the occasion, scoring twice—once in the 28th minute and again in the 45th minute—cementing India’s dominance. Amit Rohidas sealed the win with a goal in the 50th minute, leaving South Korea trailing. Though Son Dain pulled one back for Korea in the 51st minute, the Indian defense stood firm to maintain a comfortable 4-1 victory.

India’s campaign throughout the tournament was marked by consistency and strength. The team remained unbeaten, recording big wins including a 7-0 thrashing of China and a 4-1 triumph over Malaysia in the Super 4s. The draw against Korea in the Super 4s served as a wake-up call, but the final showed India’s resilience and tactical maturity.

This victory marks India’s fourth Asia Cup title, with previous wins in 2003, 2007, and 2017. The triumph is being seen as a sign of a golden era returning to Indian hockey, as the team showcased balance across attack, midfield, and defense. For fans and players alike, this success brings renewed confidence as India looks ahead to the global stage at the 2026 World Cup.
