New Delhi: The mysterious death of senior IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar has sent shockwaves through Haryana’s administrative and political circles. The officer, serving as ADGP rank, was found dead at his official residence in Chandigarh on October 7, 2025. Initial reports suggested suicide, but the details surrounding the incident have raised serious suspicions.
🔸Police recovered a nine-page handwritten note from the spot, allegedly naming eight to sixteen senior officials, including top police officers. The letter reportedly accuses them of mental harassment, humiliation, caste-based discrimination, and deliberate attempts to damage his career.
🔸Following growing public pressure, the Chandigarh Police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. The SIT is being led by an officer of IG rank, with clear instructions to conduct a transparent inquiry.
🔸In a major development, the Haryana Government removed Rohtak SP Narendra Bijraniya — one of those named in the note — and appointed Surinder Singh Bhoria in his place.
🔸Meanwhile, Puran Kumar’s wife, IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, has filed a fresh plea demanding that the FIR be amended to include all the accused officers by name, including DGP Shatrujeet Singh Kapur.
🔸The grieving family has alleged several irregularities in the handling of the case. They claim the officer’s body was shifted from the PGIMER, Chandigarh morgue without their consent, and important evidence was ignored.
🔸For four days, the family refused to allow the post-mortem, demanding justice first. However, after government assurances, they finally agreed to the post-mortem and cremation under protest.
🔸The case has now turned into a political and social flashpoint. The Haryana IAS Officers’ Association has written to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, seeking immediate action on the harassment claims raised by Amneet Kumar.
🔸Opposition parties, including the Congress, have demanded a judicial inquiry monitored by the High Court, alleging that the government is trying to shield senior officers.
🔸BSP Chief Mayawati has termed the incident “a clear case of caste-based discrimination” and called for an independent probe. Meanwhile, MP Chandrashekhar Azad met the bereaved family and said, “If a senior IPS officer is not safe in this system, imagine the plight of the common citizen.”
🔸Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has assured a fair and impartial investigation, stating that “no one will be spared, regardless of their position or power.”
🔸Officials close to the investigation say that the SIT is likely to question all those named in the suicide note and examine the harassment allegations in detail. The state government has also promised to take disciplinary action against anyone found guilty.
🔸The Y. Puran Kumar case is no longer just about one officer’s death — it has become a mirror reflecting systemic pressure, institutional silence, and the urgent need for police accountability.
🔸As the investigation unfolds, the people of Haryana — and the nation — are watching closely to see whether truth and justice will finally prevail.
