Jammu & Kashmir: Now, Kashmir’s apples and pears have made their first-ever interstate trade entry into Maharashtra’s market through the National Agriculture Market (eNAM) platform. A truck carrying 11 metric tonnes of these fresh produce from the Kashmir Valley arrived at the Gultekdi Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Pune, marking a significant milestone in India’s agricultural marketing landscape.
The eNAM platform, launched by the Government of India, connects APMCs nationwide, creating a single, transparent market for agricultural commodities. This digital marketplace enables farmers and traders to transact seamlessly across state borders, promoting fair price discovery, quality assurance, and transparent trading and transactions.
The benefits of eNAM include transparent online trading, real-time price discovery, better price realization for farmers, and reduced transaction costs for buyers. By eliminating middlemen, eNAM ensures that farmers get a better share of the profit, making it a win-win situation for both farmers and traders.
Maharashtra has been at the forefront of this digital transformation, with 133 APMCs already linked to the eNAM platform. This initiative has enabled the state to maximize trading under eNAM for assured price discovery, quality assurance, and transparent transactions, ultimately benefiting farmers and traders alike.
This historic trade between Jammu and Kashmir and Maharashtra signals a broader shift in India’s agricultural marketing, reflecting the growing maturity of the country’s agri-tech infrastructure. With more APMCs joining the platform and increasing awareness among stakeholders, the government’s push toward transparent, fair, and efficient agricultural markets is gaining momentum. eNAM is providing services to 18 million farmers with a trading volume of Rs 3 trillion, and inter-state trade on eNAM has increased significantly, from ₹1 crore during 2022-23 to ₹40 crore in 2023-24.
