Hyderabad: In one of the biggest operations against narcotics in recent years, the Crime Branch of Mira Bhayandar–Vasai Virar Police from Thane district has busted a massive synthetic drug manufacturing unit in Telangana. The police seized raw materials worth an estimated ₹12,000 crore and arrested 13 people linked to the syndicate. What began as a small seizure of 200 grams of drugs valued at ₹25 lakh eventually uncovered a vast network of suppliers, manufacturers, and distributors involved in the illegal trade.
During the raid, the police discovered nearly 32,000 litres of raw chemical substances used in producing MD drugs, also known as Methylenedioxy Methamphetamine. Officials described the facility as highly sophisticated, with advanced equipment and large-scale operations aimed at supplying narcotics across different states. Investigators believe the syndicate had developed a wide distribution network, making it a challenge to trace the supply chain and financial links.
This landmark seizure comes close on the heels of earlier successful actions by the Mira Bhayandar police, who had recently intercepted a consignment of nearly 15 kilograms of cocaine worth over ₹22 crore and arrested three individuals, including two foreign nationals. Authorities said the latest bust is a major blow to drug cartels operating in India, as it has dismantled one of the largest MD drug factories ever found in the country.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are interrogating the arrested accused to track the masterminds, funding sources, and interstate links of the cartel. Officials also stressed that the crackdown highlights the growing need for tighter monitoring of chemical supplies and stronger coordination between states to curb the spread of synthetic drugs. Further details on the case are awaited.
