Mumbai ACB Traps Senior Police Inspector in Bribery Case

Mumbai: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Mumbai, has successfully trapped Senior Police Inspector Baburao Madhukar Deshmukh (57) of Shivaji Nagar Police Station in a bribery case. Deshmukh was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 1,00,000 on May 13, 2025.
Details of the Case
The complainant, a 41-year-old male, is a trustee of a trust. On August 15, 2024, some individuals forcibly entered the trust’s school premises, breaking the gate’s lock. The complainant had filed a complaint with the Shivaji Nagar Police Station and the Charity Commissioner’s office in Mumbai.
Bribe Demand
The police officer demanded a bribe of Rs 3,00,000 to provide assistance to the trust and ensure police protection until the final orders from the Charity Commissioner’s office were received. After negotiations, the bribe amount was settled at Rs 2,50,000.
ACB’s Action
The ACB conducted a verification on May 13, 2025, and trapped the police officer while he was accepting the first installment of the bribe. Deshmukh was caught red-handed and is currently under investigation. ACB is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter, and further details are awaited. The case highlights the ACB’s efforts to curb corruption and ensure accountability within the system.
