Ratnagiri: Panic gripped Khadpoli village in Chiplun taluka after two tribal minor sisters, Mangal Manohar Waghe (15) and Supriya Yashwant Waghe (14), were found dead under mysterious circumstances on Thursday evening.
According to local residents, the sisters had gone to graze goats in the forest behind their home around 10:30 a.m. They returned around 5 p.m. and tied the goats in the shed. A short while later, their elder sister found them lying near the goat shed—unconscious, gasping, and in a critical state. She immediately raised an alarm, drawing villagers to the scene. By the time family members carried them into the house, both girls had already succumbed.
Shirgaon Police, led by Sub-Inspector Bharat Patil, rushed to the spot and began a probe. Preliminary suspicion points toward possible poisoning, though it remains unclear whether it was accidental or deliberate. Villagers have raised questions since dinner was prepared at home earlier, but it is yet to be confirmed whether the sisters consumed it.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem to Dadar Primary Health Center to ascertain the exact cause of death. Police say they are keeping all angles open, and further investigation is underway.
