Satara: A midnight encounter near Shikrapur in Pune district ended the crime spree of Lakhan Bhosale, a notorious criminal with multiple burglary and robbery cases across western Maharashtra. Acting on a tip-off, Satara Police cornered Bhosale late Thursday night, leading to a dramatic showdown that left him dead while his accomplice managed to flee.
Over the past few weeks, Shikrapur residents had been gripped by fear following a series of burglaries and chain-snatching incidents. Police had intensified patrolling after CCTV footage showed Bhosale brandishing a knife during a recent chain-snatching case involving a local woman.
Late last night, a special police team tracked him down. However, when officers tried to arrest him, Bhosale allegedly attacked the team with sharp weapons, injuring four policemen. Police then retaliated with gunfire in self-defense, killing him on the spot.
Bhosale, a native of Jayaram Swami Wadi in Khatav taluka, had cases registered in Satara, Sangli, Pune, and several other districts. Police described him as a habitual offender who had long evaded capture.
Meanwhile, the second suspect escaped under the cover of darkness, prompting an extensive search operation. Police have assured residents that he will be nabbed soon, bringing relief to the crime-hit region.
