Pimpri Zoo’s Residents to Get a white Mouse

Pune: In a bizarre move, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has decided to purchase white Mouse for the snakes at the Nisarg kavi Bahinabai Chaudhary Zoo, which has been closed for renovation and beautification for the past nine years. The zoo, established in 1989, has undergone significant renovations, with a whopping ₹20 crore spent in the second phase and an additional ₹24 crore allocated for further development.
The White Mouse Conundrum
The municipal veterinary department has floated a tender for the purchase of white mouse for the snakes, with three suppliers participating. Sam Enterprises quoted the lowest rate of ₹159 per white mouse, which was subsequently accepted. The department plans to spend ₹8,61,840 over two years to supply the snakes with these white mouse.
Renovation and Development
The zoo’s renovation, which began in 2016, is expected to continue for another two years. The municipal corporation has allocated significant funds for the development of the zoo, including the construction of a serpentarium and zoo museum. The aim is to provide citizens with a unique opportunity to learn about animals and birds while promoting conservation efforts.
A Luxury Item for Residents
While the decision to purchase white mouse for the snakes may seem unusual, it highlights the zoo’s commitment to providing a comfortable and healthy environment for its residents.
