PM Modi to Inaugurate International Exposition
Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a Grand International Exposition of Sacred Piprahwa Relics related to Lord Buddha in New Delhi today, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office. The event marks a significant moment in India’s cultural and spiritual diplomacy.
Rare Relics Displayed Together for First Time
The exposition will be held at the Rai Pithora Cultural Complex in the national capital. For the first time, the sacred Piprahwa relics preserved at the National Museum, New Delhi, and the Indian Museum, Kolkata, will be displayed together. These relics were repatriated after more than a century, following sustained efforts by the Government of India.
Archaeological Significance of Piprahwa Relics
Discovered in 1898, the Piprahwa relics are among the earliest and most historically significant relic deposits directly associated with Lord Buddha. Archaeological evidence links the Piprahwa site to ancient Kapilavastu, widely believed to be the place where Lord Buddha spent his early life before renouncing worldly existence.
Showcasing India’s Buddhist Civilisational Legacy
The exposition aims to highlight India’s deep-rooted civilisational connection with the teachings of Bhagwan Buddha and underscore the country’s role as the birthplace of Buddhism. Officials said the event reflects the Prime Minister’s commitment to preserving and promoting India’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage.
Repatriation Through Coordinated Efforts
The recent repatriation of the Piprahwa relics was achieved through sustained government initiatives, institutional cooperation, and innovative public-private partnerships. Authorities view the exposition as a milestone in India’s ongoing efforts to reclaim and preserve culturally significant artefacts.
