🟡 Prime Minister’s Two-Day Maharashtra Tour
Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Maharashtra on October 8 and 9, 2025, for a packed schedule of high-impact infrastructure launches in Navi Mumbai and Mumbai. The visit underscores the Centre’s focus on turning Maharashtra into a major aviation, logistics, and mobility hub, driving both economic growth and employment.
🟡 Navi Mumbai International Airport Inauguration
PM Modi will inaugurate the first phase of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), a long-awaited project valued at ₹19,650 crore. The airport, built under a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) between Adani Group and CIDCO, will serve as a second international gateway for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Spread across 1,160 hectares in Ulwe, NMIA features a 3,700-meter runway, solar-powered terminals, and a fully automated passenger system. The facility can handle 20 million passengers annually in its first phase and will later expand to 90 million passengers. Commercial operations are expected to begin in December 2025.
🟡 Tribute to D. B. Patil and Local Sentiment
The new airport will be officially known as D. B. Patil International Airport, named after the late leader and farmer activist who championed the rights of Navi Mumbai’s project-affected people. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed the name following PMO’s approval, calling it a tribute to “a son of the soil.”
Patil’s family expressed gratitude, terming the naming a “historic moment.” However, local activists have also urged the Prime Minister to focus on wetland protection amid the region’s rapid urban expansion.
🟡 Mumbai Metro Line-3: City’s First Underground Corridor
Alongside the airport launch, PM Modi will inaugurate the Phase-2B segment of Mumbai Metro Line-3, completing the 33.5-km Aqua Line connecting SEEPZ to Cuffe Parade.
This ambitious underground metro, built at a cost of ₹37,270 crore, will drastically reduce traffic in South Mumbai, connecting business hubs and residential districts. With 27 stations, it’s expected to carry over 17 lakh passengers daily once fully operational.
🟡 ‘Mumbai One’ – Unified Mobility App for the City
To simplify city commuting, PM Modi will launch ‘Mumbai One’, an integrated mobility app connecting all major transport services — Metro, Monorail, Suburban Rail, and multiple bus networks (BEST, NMMT, TMT, KDMT).
The app enables digital ticketing, route tracking, and multi-modal transfers, providing Mumbaikars with a single travel solution for seamless mobility.
🟡 Skill Development Drive – STEP Initiative
As part of the Maharashtra tour, PM Modi will inaugurate the Short-Term Employability Programme (STEP), targeting youth skilling in futuristic sectors like electric mobility, AI, green tech, and electronics manufacturing.
The initiative will roll out across 400 ITIs and 150 government technical schools, aiming to strengthen local employment and entrepreneurship.
🟡 India–UK Bilateral Engagement in Mumbai
On October 9, PM Modi will host UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Mumbai for key trade and innovation talks. Both leaders will jointly address the India–UK CEO Forum and the Global Fintech Fest 2025 at the Jio World Centre.
This meeting will focus on investment, technology transfer, and fintech collaboration, underscoring India’s growing role in global financial leadership.
🟡 Aerocity & Connectivity Boost Around Airport
CIDCO is developing a new Aerocity adjacent to NMIA — a futuristic city ecosystem with offices, hotels, and residential zones to support the airport economy.
Authorities are planning dedicated shuttle services from Seawoods, Nerul, and Belapur railway stations, and exploring a proposed tunnel link from Mumbai Island to NMIA to cut travel time and ease congestion.
🟡 A Vision for Future Maharashtra
The twin inaugurations — Navi Mumbai Airport and Mumbai Metro-3 — highlight PM Modi’s broader vision for ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, emphasizing infrastructure-led development.
“This is not just about connectivity,” the Prime Minister said, “It’s about transforming lives, creating opportunities, and shaping India’s growth story from the ground up.”
