Satara :Former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has criticized the politicization of the 2008 Malegaon blast case, saying his statement on terrorism having no caste, religion, or color was “conveniently twisted”. Chavan emphasized that terrorism kills innocent people and maims children, and the focus should be on investigating the case rather than politicizing it.
Investigation Under Scanner
Chavan questioned the investigation process, pointing out that the case was handed over to the NIA in 2014 under Amit Shah’s watch, and the court later acquitted the accused due to lack of evidence. He demanded answers on whether there was political pressure on the investigating agency and suggested that both the Malegaon blast case and another case should be appealed in the High Court.
Demands Action Against Extortion
Chavan also spoke about the issue of extortion in Maharashtra, alleging that goons are operating with “royal patronage” and that only the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister can deal with such cases. He cited an example of an industrial plant in Pune where extortionists are demanding ransom, and claimed that industries are not coming to Maharashtra due to such issues.
