Mumbai: MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) chief Raj Thackeray warned non-Marathi speakers in Mumbai that if they “make fun” or don’t understand Marathi, they will face slaps. He cautioned non-local people to quietly do their work or face consequences.
Raj Thackeray stated that if non-Marathi speakers don’t understand Marathi, even if spoken directly in their ear, they will get a slap. He justified an attack on a shopkeeper who didn’t speak Marathi, criticizing traders who opposed the incident and called for a shutdown.
Raj Thackeray threatened action if Hindi is made compulsory in Maharashtra schools from grades 1 to 5, stating his party would “shut down schools.” He said he’s not against any language but won’t tolerate forceful imposition. The statement comes after MNS workers assaulted a shopkeeper for not speaking Marathi. The Maharashtra government had earlier withdrawn orders making Hindi compulsory in primary schools due to opposition from various groups.
