Satara: On 3rd October 2025, while returning from a Wildlife Week awareness programme organized by the Bamnoli Forest Range Office, the forest staff intercepted three individuals engaged in the illegal hunting of a Spotted Dove (Streptopelia chinensis) near Mhavshi village.

The accused have been identified as:

1. Nitin Kharat

2. Babu Lavud

3. Raju Lavud, all residents of Pusegaon, Satara

During the operation, the team seized the dead bird, a Vertigo air gun, and three mobile phones used during the act.

The inquiry was conducted under the guidance of the Deputy Director and the Assistant Forest Guard. As the area falls under the jurisdiction of the Regional Forest Division, the three accused have been handed over to the Medha (Territorial) Forest Range Office for further legal action.

This incident serves as a reminder of the need for continued vigilance and public cooperation in protecting India’s rich wildlife heritage.
