Dhule: A disturbing situation has surfaced in Dhule district’s Sakri taluka, where several schoolgirls from Pimpalner and Balhane villages have stopped attending school due to continuous harassment by so-called “Romeos.” Troubled by the increasing incidents and the impact on their daughters’ safety and education, parents had earlier submitted a written complaint at the Pimpalner Police Station.
Parents Protest Over Police Inaction
Alleging that no action was taken on their complaint, angry parents once again gathered outside the Pimpalner Police Station and staged a sit-in protest. They accused the police of remaining silent despite the growing problem and questioned why authorities were failing to act when students were being forced to abandon their education. Parents and women protesters demanded immediate and strict action against those responsible.
Schools Affected in Education Hub
Pimpalner, often regarded as an education hub, has witnessed repeated incidents of harassment over the past one to two months. Fed up with persistent teasing and stalking, several students from Balhane village took the extreme decision to stop attending school, raising serious concerns about student safety in the area.
Teachers and Parents Approach Police
After some students shared their ordeal with their families, parents and teachers jointly approached the police station seeking intervention. School principals, teaching and non-teaching staff, along with a large number of parents, were present at the police station premises, underlining the gravity of the issue.
Serious Allegations Against Accused
It has reportedly emerged that those involved in harassing schoolgirls are linked to illegal sand-mining activities. Parents further alleged that they were intimidated even inside police officers’ chambers, adding to their anger and sense of insecurity.
Questions Raised Over Damini Squad
Concerns have also been raised over the functioning of the Damini Squad, as officials have reportedly not visited schools in Pimpalner town for over a month. Parents have questioned the effectiveness of the squad in preventing harassment and ensuring student safety.
Demand for Immediate Action
Parents are urging the police administration to take swift and strict action against the accused, conduct regular school visits, guide students, and carry out awareness programmes. They insist that immediate intervention is essential to restore safety, confidence, and normalcy for schoolgirls and their families.ver Inaction
