Tension in Nandurbar After Violent Incident; Police Officer Suspended, Five Arrested

Nandurbar: A city witnessed heightened tension following a violent incident on Tuesday night in Sindhi Colony area. The clash between two individuals, Suryakant Marathe and Jayesh Valvi, escalated when Marathe allegedly attacked Valvi with a knife, leaving him critically injured.
Shockingly, a police constable present at the spot was found to have allegedly assisted the accused. In response, Nandurbar police have taken strict action—an FIR has been registered against the constable, and he has been placed under suspension. Officials confirmed that the suspended officer is now in police custody, and legal proceedings are being initiated against him.
Superintendent of Police Shravan Datt S. stated that three separate cases have been registered in connection with Tuesday’s incident—two at Nandurbar City Police Station and one at Upnagar Police Station. So far, five accused persons have been arrested. Police also assured that charge sheets will be filed in court on priority, and stern action will be taken.
Meanwhile, videos of the attack and related events are being circulated on social media. The SP has appealed to citizens not to share or forward such videos, warning that it could obstruct the ongoing investigation.
The incident has left the city tense. Markets remained largely deserted on Wednesday as many traders chose to keep their shops shut. Schools and colleges also witnessed a low turnout.
Following the attack, the injured, Jayesh Valvi, was rushed first to Nandurbar and later referred to Surat for advanced treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries in Surat. His mortal remains are expected to reach Nandurbar by 1 pm today, with the final rites likely to be performed by 4 pm.
In anticipation of unrest, precautionary measures have been taken across the city. Police presence has been increased, and the administration is closely monitoring the situation.
