Nandurbar: A shocking incident in Nandurbar has triggered anger among tribal organizations after a 22-year-old tribal youth, Jayesh Raju Bhil (Valvi), was allegedly stabbed to death on September 16. The Adivasi Janata Foundation (AJ Group) strongly condemned the incident and demanded immediate and strict action against the accused.
According to a statement issued by the organization, the attack took place at Sindhi Colony in Nandurbar, where Suryakant Sudhakar Marathe and his associates allegedly assaulted Jayesh Valvi with a knife. Disturbingly, it has also been alleged that a police constable, Chetan Chaudhary, was present at the scene during the attack. Following the assault, Valvi succumbed to his injuries on the same night at around 8:30 pm.
CCTV footage of the incident has since gone viral, reportedly showing the involvement of the police personnel alongside the assailant. This has raised serious questions over the role of the police in the case. Tribal organizations have demanded the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident thoroughly and register murder charges against all those responsible.
The AJ Group has also urged authorities to ensure justice for the victim’s family. In its memorandum, the organization warned that if swift action is not taken, the entire tribal community along with AJ Group will launch a massive protest.
The memorandum was officially received by PSI Sansare under the guidance of Pimpalner Police Station in-charge Kiran Barge. Prominent leaders including Dhule District Congress President Pravin Bhau Chaure, Ganesh Gavit, Chetan Chaudhary, Pappu Chaure, Vijay Gangurde, Manohar Bagul, Anil Chaudhary, Anil Sonawane, Sandeep Bhoye, and Ranjan Valvi, along with hundreds of tribal youths from surrounding areas, were present during the submission.
In protest, tribal organizations have called for a bandh (shutdown) in Sakri and Pimpalner on Wednesday, September 24, demanding justice and strict punishment for the culprits.
