Satara : A chilling murder mystery has been solved by the Koynanagar Police, leaving the entire Satara district in shock. The accused, identified as Dnyandev Tukaram Sutar (37), a native of Taliye, Patan taluka, currently residing in Virar, has confessed to murdering his own minor niece. Investigations reveal that he lured the girl into a relationship, exploited her, and later strangled her to death out of fear of social disgrace. He then dumped her body in a pit near the riverbank to conceal his crime.
🟡 It All Began with ‘Abduction’
In August 2024, the accused had allegedly enticed and abducted the victim. A missing complaint was registered at the Koynanagar Police Station. With the girl untraceable, the case initially posed a major challenge for investigators.
🟡 Grim Truth Uncovered During Probe
Police later received crucial information that the girl was pregnant and had been killed by her lover, Dnyandev Sutar. Acting swiftly, the Satara police, along with the Local Crime Branch, rushed to Vajegaon in Patan taluka. There, they discovered the victim’s body dumped in a pit near the riverbank and apprehended the accused.
🟡 The Chilling Confession
Initially, Sutar tried to mislead investigators. However, under sustained interrogation, he finally confessed:
“Yes, I strangled her and dumped the body.”
The recovery was carried out in the presence of the Tehsildar, medical officers, and forensic experts. The shocking revelation has caused widespread outrage and grief in the region.
🟡 Relationship and Motive
Police investigations revealed that the accused was the victim’s uncle by relation. Over time, an illicit relationship developed between them. Fearing that their affair and her pregnancy would be exposed, Sutar chose the extreme step of murder. To hide his crime, he dumped the body in a secluded area, but the police cracked the case and exposed his act.
🟡 Legal Action
Initially, a case had been registered under BNS Section 137(2). With confirmation of the murder, additional charges under BNS Sections 140(1), 103(1), and 238 were added. The accused was produced in court and has been remanded to police custody until October 3, 2025.
🟡 Crime at a Secluded Location
The dumping site was a deserted spot near Wazegaon in the Koyna dam backwater region. The area’s isolation and silence gave the accused a false sense of security, leading him to believe the crime would remain hidden. Reports suggest some relatives were already aware of his inappropriate conduct with the victim, but no one anticipated it would end in such brutality.
🟡 A Lesson for Society
This case once again highlights how fear of social stigma can drive individuals to commit extreme crimes. A betrayal of trust, morality, and family ties, this incident has become a grim talking point across Satara district. This breakthrough investigation was carried out under the guidance of District SP Tushar Doshi, Additional SP Vaishali Kadukar, and SDPO Vijay Patil. The probe was led by PSI S. K. Olekar, while PI Shingade and the LCB team played a crucial role in tracing the crime.
