Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate Destroys Drugs Worth Rs 10 Crore

Navi Mumbai: In a significant blow to the illicit drug trade, the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate has destroyed drugs worth a staggering Rs 10 crore. This massive haul was disposed of at the government-run Waste Management Limited waste disposal project in Taloja, marking a major milestone in the Navi Mumbai Drug-Free Campaign.
The destruction of these drugs was carried out in the presence of Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, Panvel MLA Prashant Thakur, and other dignitaries. Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe and Assistant Police Commissioner Ajay Landge were also present, highlighting the police department’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking.
The Drugs Seized
The drugs destroyed included ganja, charas, MD, MDMA, and LCD, all of which were seized in 40 anti-drug operations. This significant haul is a testament to the Navi Mumbai Police’s tireless efforts to combat drug smuggling.
A Year of Intensive Crackdown
Between 2023 and 2024, the Navi Mumbai Police registered 1,143 cases, arresting 1,743 individuals and seizing drugs worth Rs 56 crore. Notably, 111 African citizens were arrested, and drugs worth Rs 38 crore were seized from them.
Zero Tolerance Policy
Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s zero-tolerance policy on drugs, emphasizing the police department’s commitment to preventing drug trafficking. The police are also keeping a close eye on slums, where smugglers often operate.
A New Record
According to Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajay Landge, this is the biggest drug disposal operation of the Navi Mumbai Police so far. Last year, drugs worth Rs 1.61 crore were disposed of, while this year’s haul was significantly larger, at Rs 10 crore.
By destroying these drugs, the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate has sent a strong message to drug traffickers, reaffirming its commitment to keeping the city safe and drug-free.
