MUMBAI — Last month, the Nalasopara police station had a complaint about the theft of an Anza card (RR unit) utilized for radio frequency from an Airtel mobile tower located at the Fenn Avenue Apartments, beside Mother Mary School. In this regard, a case was filed at the local police station under IPC 305 (1), 3(5), 310(5), and Sections 40 (1) and 48 of the Indian Telecommunication Act. Due to a rise in theft cases in Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar since last month, MBVV crime branch unit visited the mobile tower area, studied various technological aspects, and succeeded in trying to track down the gang through the sources. MBVV Crime Branch has detained a total of seven gang members.Three of these members are from Mumbai, and the remaining four are from outside the state.Interestingly, the case’s international connection has recently been revealed.The arrested accused confessed to sending the Anza card (RR UNIT) from the stolen mobile tower machine to China, altering the software and hardware, and resold it on the open market. Based on this information, a complaint has been registered against the gang at 20 various police stations.
The gang is thought to operate mostly in Mumbai, Thane, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Punjab, and Goa. In this operation, Crime Branch confiscated 36 machines from the accused, the current value of which exceeds 40 lakhs, suggesting a significant cash turnover.
