Navi Mumbai: During a major crackdown on illicit drug trade, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai Zonal Unit recovered 11,540 kg of high-grade cocaine, 4.9 kg of hybrid strain hydroponic cannabis, and 200 units (5.5 kg) of cannabis candy. The total worth of the seized drugs is estimated to be around Rs 200 crore. Four people have been arrested in connection with the seizure. These are the results of an extensive investigation that began in January 2025 with the seizure of a commercial cargo to transport 200 grams of cocaine. The NCB investigated the supply chain and carried out searches in Navi Mumbai utilizing technology tracking and human intelligence.
During the raid on January 31, 2025, officers seized both drugs and Rs 16 lakh in cash. Investigations have revealed that the syndicate has links to an international network. The initial seizure happened at an international courier company in Mumbai, where the parcel was to be delivered to Australia.
Investigation indicated that the bulk of the drugs were hidden in Navi Mumbai. Investigations indicate that these syndicates were run by foreign nationals. Drugs were imported from the United States and circulated in India and other countries via courier services, small consignment shipments, and human traffickers. Since law enforcement research was new, smugglers utilized fake identity cards and had no idea what each other’s genuine names were. So far, four people have been arrested, and the NCB has started an investigation to discover other members of the syndicate and their connections in India as well as overseas.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised NCB’s achievements and congratulated the team through the X post. “India has a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics cartels. The seizure of high-grade cocaine, ganja, and ganja gummies in Mumbai, along with the arrest of four individuals, is a major victory. This shows the success of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji’s top-down investigative method to reach the objective of a drug-free India.” Congratulations to the team @narcoticsbureau on this major achievement,” Shah said on X.
