Solapur: The Solapur district is experiencing a severe flood situation, with the Disaster Management Team and NDRF deployed to rescue citizens stranded in floodwaters. In the Malshiras taluka’s Kurdawadi village, six citizens were trapped in floodwaters and were rescued by the NDRF team at 3:30 am. In the Pandharpur taluka’s Gursal village, three saints who had gone to the Mahadev temple for worship were stranded due to the floodwaters. The District Disaster Management Authority team reached the village and rescued them.
Heavy Rainfall and IMD Alerts
As of today, Solapur district has recorded 773 mm of rainfall, leading to a rise in water levels in the dams. Several rivers and streams have overflowed, causing flooding in some areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the district, warning of continued heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding. The IMD has also forecasted heavy rainfall in the coming days, which may exacerbate the flood situation.
District Administration’s Response
District Collector Kumar Ashirwad stated that the district administration is prepared to handle the disaster situation in Solapur. The administration has taken measures to ensure the safety of citizens, including evacuating people from flood-prone areas and providing relief to those affected. The administration has also set up relief camps and distribution centers for essential supplies.
Ongoing Rescue Efforts
The NDRF and District Disaster Management Authority teams are continuing their rescue efforts, working tirelessly to ensure the safety of citizens. The teams are using boats and other equipment to rescue people stranded in floodwaters. Citizens are advised to avoid traveling to flood-affected areas, stay away from flooded rivers and streams, follow evacuation instructions from authorities, and keep essential supplies and emergency contact numbers handy. The district administration urges people to remain cautious and follow safety guidelines to avoid any harm.
Relief and Rehabilitation
The district administration is working to provide relief and rehabilitation to those affected by the floods. The administration is distributing food, water, and other essential supplies to those in need. The administration is also working to restore basic amenities and infrastructure in flood-affected areas.
