Ratnagiri: A 21-hour power outage has hit Sangameshwar taluka in Ratnagiri, sparking widespread discontent among consumers. The disruption, which occurred on Sunday, has been attributed to the absence of MSEDCL engineers who failed to streamline power supply and plan the work properly.

Incident Timeline

11 am on Sunday: The Niwali-Sangameshwar power line, which supplies electricity to Sangameshwar taluk, was damaged.

7:30 pm on Sunday: The power line of Nivli Sangameshwar 33 KV capacity was not working, and another 33 KV power line from Aravali to Sangameshwar was damaged, disrupting power supply to the taluk on both sides.

Monday morning: MSEDCL officials rushed to repair the 33 KV power line from Aravali to Sangameshwar.

4:30 pm on Monday: Power supply was restored.

Consumer Outrage

Consumers have expressed strong resentment against MSEDCL, citing lack of proper planning and communication about the power outage. Ganesh idol manufacturers, who rely heavily on electricity, have also been affected, adding to the outrage. With Ganeshotsav just around the corner, consumers are questioning MSEDCL’s ability to provide reliable service during the festivities.

Demands for Investigation

Social activists Vinod Mhaske and Rakhet Jadhav have demanded a thorough investigation into the incident, citing administrative apathy and irresponsible behavior by MSEDCL officials. They have also called for strict action against those responsible for the prolonged power outage.

MSEDCL’s Response

While MSEDCL has restored power supply, consumers and activists are awaiting a formal response and explanation for the disruption. The company’s ability to manage power supply during peak festivals like Ganeshotsav will be closely watched.
