Mumbai: A fresh security scare has emerged in the financial capital after terror outfit Lashkar-e-Jihad allegedly issued a threat warning against Mumbai city. Intelligence sources confirmed that the warning was circulated through encrypted channels, triggering a coordinated response from central and state security agencies.

Immediately after the alert, Mumbai Police, Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), and intelligence units swung into action. Intensive checking drives have begun across railway stations, metro networks, bus depots, and coastal zones. Security has also been tightened around government establishments, financial hubs, consulates, and crowded markets.

Senior police officials held emergency meetings late in the night to review preparedness. The Coast Guard and Navy have also been alerted, considering Mumbai’s long and vulnerable coastline. Cyber experts are tracking the digital footprints of the group to verify the authenticity and origin of the threat message.

Police Commissioner assured the public that “all measures are in place, and there is no cause for panic,” while also appealing to citizens to remain alert and immediately report any unattended objects, suspicious activity, or persons.

Security analysts note that such threats are often designed to create panic and disrupt normal life, but past experiences—including the 26/11 attacks—have kept agencies cautious about dismissing any warning.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government has directed all departments to remain on standby and to ensure the city’s critical infrastructure, including airports, refineries, and stock exchanges, is under round-the-clock security cover.

The situation is being closely monitored at the highest level, with central intelligence agencies maintaining direct coordination with Mumbai Police to prevent any untoward incident.
