Mumbai: India celebrated Bhai Dooj with immense joy, devotion, and traditional fervour — transforming the festival of sibling affection into a grand celebration of culture and commerce. Across homes, markets, and temples, the spirit of love between brothers and sisters illuminated the nation.
Sisters performed the sacred tilak ceremony, praying for their brothers’ long lives and prosperity, while brothers returned the gesture with heartfelt gifts and blessings. The festive warmth spread from Delhi to Mumbai, Jaipur to Chennai, and from small towns to villages — showcasing India’s unmatched cultural unity.
₹22,000 Crore Business Across India
According to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), Bhai Dooj festivities generated an estimated ₹22,000 crore in trade nationwide — with Delhi alone contributing nearly ₹2,800 crore.
CAIT Vice President and Thane Zila Wholesale Vyapari Welfare Mahasangh President Shri Suresh Bhai Thakkar stated that the festival reflects India’s deep-rooted traditions of family unity and mutual trust.
Markets witnessed unprecedented footfall in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Bhopal, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Patna, Indore, and Kanpur — turning the day into a carnival of commerce and culture.
Boost for Traders and Local Markets
CAIT’s Shri Uday Suresh Bhai Thakkar highlighted that trade flourished in several key categories including sweets, dry fruits, gift packs, readymade garments, jewellery, electronics, home appliances, décor, and puja materials.
Additionally, travel, hospitality, and restaurant sectors saw significant growth, reflecting a strong festive sentiment nationwide.
Swadeshi Spirit Shines Bright
Shri Praveen Khandelwal, Member of Parliament from Chandni Chowk and National Secretary General of CAIT, said that Bhai Dooj not only strengthens family relationships but also empowers India’s Sanatani economy.
“Bhai Dooj is the soul of Indian culture — a symbol of love, sacrifice, and respect. This year, traders across India proudly supported the Prime Minister’s Vocal for Local and Aatmanirbhar Bharat call,” said Mr. Khandelwal.
He further revealed that sales of Swadeshi (indigenous) products rose by nearly 50%, with notable demand in sweets, traditional gifts, dry fruits, and handloom garments.
Festival of Love Strengthens the Economy
CAIT believes festivals like Bhai Dooj rejuvenate India’s traditional market ecosystem and reinforce consumer confidence in local products.
They not only celebrate cultural harmony and family bonds but also fuel India’s economic growth, proving once again that India’s non-corporate sector is the heartbeat of the nation’s prosperity.
