Nashik : A tragic incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in Maharashtra’s Nashik district when a car carrying pilgrims fell into a 600-foot deep gorge in the Saptashrungi hills. The vehicle reportedly lost control while navigating the steep ghat road, leading to a fatal plunge.
All six occupants, belonging to the same family from Pimpalgaon Baswant in Niphad taluka, died on the spot. The deceased included elderly members aged between 50 and 70, who were returning after visiting the Saptashrungi Devi temple.
Upon receiving information, the police, local authorities, and disaster-management teams rushed to the site. The rescue operation was challenging due to the deep valley and difficult terrain, but officials managed to recover all bodies after extensive efforts. The car was found severely damaged due to the impact.
The Maharashtra government has announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh to each bereaved family. Leaders have also expressed condolences over the tragic loss of lives.
The incident has reignited concerns over road safety on ghat sections, especially on routes frequently used by pilgrims. Locals have urged authorities to strengthen guard-rails, improve road maintenance, and install better signage to prevent future mishaps.
