Mumbai: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced new Aadhaar-related rules aimed at improving digital access, updating accuracy, and strengthening data security. These changes directly impact how Aadhaar holders update their details, the charges involved, and compliance with mandatory requirements linked to financial and government services.
Simplified Online Aadhaar Update Process
As per the new rules, UIDAI has expanded online Aadhaar update facilities, allowing citizens to modify key demographic details such as name, address, date of birth, and mobile number through the official Aadhaar portal. This move significantly reduces the need to visit Aadhaar Seva Kendras and helps users complete updates faster and more conveniently from their homes.
Revised Service Charges for Aadhaar Updates
UIDAI has also revised the service charges applicable to Aadhaar updates. Demographic updates now attract a higher processing fee, while biometric updates, including fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs, have also seen a nominal increase. However, UIDAI continues to offer limited-time relief on certain online document updates, subject to official notifications.
Relief for Children’s Biometric Updates
In an important relief for families, biometric updates for children within the mandatory age brackets remain free of cost. UIDAI has retained this exemption to ensure that biometric data remains accurate as children grow, without placing an additional financial burden on parents.
Mandatory PAN–Aadhaar Linking Emphasised
The government has once again stressed the importance of linking PAN with Aadhaar within the prescribed deadline. Failure to complete the linkage may lead to PAN becoming inoperative, which could affect income tax filings, banking transactions, and access to financial services.
Enhanced Focus on Digital Security and Privacy
As part of the updated framework, UIDAI is strengthening Aadhaar’s digital security features. Enhanced QR code verification, masked Aadhaar options, and secure digital authentication methods are being promoted to minimise misuse of physical Aadhaar copies and protect user privacy.
Impact of the New Aadhaar Rules
The new Aadhaar rules are expected to improve service efficiency, ensure up-to-date identity records, and strengthen the overall digital identity ecosystem. Aadhaar holders are advised to review their details and complete necessary updates within the specified timelines to avoid future inconvenience
Note – Readers are advised to regularly check UIDAI notifications and ensure their Aadhaar details are updated to avoid disruption in government and financial services.
