New Delhi:: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has stated that it is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Bangladesh, amid reports of political instability, violence, and growing concerns over the safety of minority communities. India has described the developments as a matter of serious concern, emphasizing that events in its immediate neighbourhood have direct implications for regional stability and bilateral relations.
India Raises Concern Over Attacks on Minorities
The MEA has expressed strong concern over incidents of violence targeting minority communities in Bangladesh, particularly members of the Hindu community. Officials noted that such incidents cannot be dismissed as isolated or routine law-and-order issues and must be addressed with urgency. India has urged the Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety, security, and equal treatment of all citizens, irrespective of religion or political affiliation.
Diplomatic Engagement Underway
According to the MEA, India remains in continuous diplomatic engagement with Bangladesh through established channels. New Delhi has conveyed its expectations clearly, stressing the need for accountability, rule of law, and protection of democratic values. The ministry reiterated that India believes in resolving concerns through dialogue while respecting the sovereignty of Bangladesh.
Impact on Bilateral Relations and Mobility
The current crisis has begun to reflect in strained bilateral engagements, including disruptions in visa services and people-to-people exchanges. Indian officials have acknowledged that such measures impact ordinary citizens on both sides and expressed hope that normal diplomatic and consular operations will resume once the situation stabilizes.
India Rejects Misinformation and Anti-India Narrative
The MEA has firmly rejected what it termed as misleading and politically motivated narratives targeting India. Officials clarified that India does not interfere in the internal affairs of Bangladesh and remains committed to a peaceful, stable, and prosperous neighbour. The ministry cautioned against the spread of misinformation that could further inflame tensions.
Call for Stability and Democratic Processes
India has underlined the importance of peace, restraint, and democratic processes in Bangladesh. The MEA stated that free, fair, and inclusive political processes are essential for long-term stability and for preserving the strong historical, cultural, and economic ties between the two nations.
Regional Stability a Key Priority
The ministry emphasized that instability in Bangladesh has broader regional implications, particularly for South Asia. India reiterated its commitment to working with regional partners to promote peace, counter extremism, and maintain economic and security cooperation in the region.
Way Forward
Concluding its remarks, the MEA stated that India will continue to watch developments closely, remain engaged at diplomatic levels, and advocate for the protection of human rights and democratic values. New Delhi expressed hope that Bangladesh will overcome the current challenges through dialogue, institutional strength, and inclusive governance.
